Tshabola's journey to Kentucky was not without drama. He committed to Ohio State early in his sophomore year, but other schools like Michigan, LSU, Oklahoma, and Penn State tried to flip him. Kentucky made a late push for an official visit, but Tshabola ultimately signed with the Buckeyes during the early signing period. At Ohio State, he redshirted his first year, playing in just four games at right guard. However, he emerged as a rotational player in his redshirt freshman year, appearing in five games, primarily at left guard.

He started all 16 games, playing a crucial role in the Buckeyes' national championship win. The following year, he started 13 more games before a leg injury sidelined him for the College Football Playoff.
