Panthers 5-4 Bruins (5 Feb, 2026) Game Recap - ESPN (AU) (2026)

In a thrilling showdown on February 5, 2026, the Florida Panthers edged out the Boston Bruins with a nail-biting 5-4 victory, thanks to Brad Marchand's clutch shootout goal. This game marked Marchand's return after missing two games, and he didn't disappoint as he faced off against his former team.

The Panthers showcased a strong offensive performance, led by Anton Lundell, who recorded a goal and two assists, achieving his second three-point game of the season. Notably, both Matthew Tkachuk and Uvis Balinskis contributed significantly as well, each netting a goal and an assist. This win was particularly sweet for Florida, as it broke a frustrating four-game losing streak. In goal, Sergei Bobrovsky made an impressive 25 saves to secure the victory.

On the opposing side, the Bruins struggled, with Michael Eyssimont being a standout player for them, scoring two goals. Unfortunately for Boston, this defeat marks their second consecutive loss in Florida during shootouts, following a previous loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL Stadium Series just days earlier.

The scoring began early, with Eetu Luostarinen putting the Panthers ahead at 4:22 of the first period. However, the Bruins quickly responded with Eyssimont scoring twice on breakaways, including a remarkable effort after bursting out of the penalty box that left Bobrovsky vulnerable. The first period ended with the Panthers trailing 2-1.

Florida turned the tide in the second period by netting three goals, taking advantage of special teams play. Balinskis equalized just 30 seconds into the period, followed by Tkachuk's power-play goal, giving the Panthers a 3-2 lead at 2:22. They extended their lead to 4-2 with a short-handed goal by Lundell just before the end of the period.

The Bruins weren't done yet, though. In the third period, Mark Kastelic brought Boston back within one goal at 4-3. Casey Mittelstadt then tied the game with a power-play goal, deftly lifting a rebound over Bobrovsky with just under ten minutes remaining. Despite their efforts, Boston struggled on the power play overall, converting only 1 of 7 chances.

Looking ahead, the Bruins will host the Columbus Blue Jackets on February 26, while the Panthers are set to visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.
